Reception for Susan Rebecca White, author of A Place at the Table

a place at the table

Join us for a special reception on our patio to celebrate author, Susan Rebecca White and her newest food novel, A Place at the Table, on September 20th from 6:00-7:30. We will be providing hors d’ouevres inspired by the novel, and the price of $45 per person or $65 per couple includes a copy of the book, to be signed by the author. Advanced reservations are required.

White’s novel is about 3 very different people who come together in a chic Manhattan cafe. Drawing inspiration from New York’s Nicholson Cafe and the relationship between important Southern chefs Scott Peacock and Edna Lewis, the novel juxtaposes the New York food scene with remembrances of Southern cuisines. This is just our sort of book, and we know you will fall in love with these characters.

Susan Rebecca White is an Atlanta native. She has her BA in English from Brown, and MFA in Creative Writing from Hollins University. She has published 3 novels: Bound South, A Soft Place to Land, and now, A Place at the Table. She currently lives in Atlanta and teaches Creative Writing at Emory. We are so excited to have her at Heirloom.

Janet Geddis of Avid Bookshop reviews A Place at the Table: “White has really come into her own with her newest novel (and this is coming from someone who really enjoyed her previous books). The storyline is sophisticated and smart, and I loved getting to know these sensitive, creative characters as they encountered both unexpected and predictable challenges in their lives. My feeling is that the ending came on a little too abruptly; you could argue that I felt that way because I wasn’t ready for it to end, and maybe you’d be right. A solid four stars. Highly recommended.”
